Brazilian national football player Casemiro explained the origin of the well-known spelling of his name in an interview with the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica and attributed responsibility for it to his youth club FC São Paulo.
His civil first name is actually Casimiro, but on the jerseys it has read Casemiro since the start of his professional career – with an "e" instead of an "i". In the interview, the midfielder said it had been a one-time mistake that he now carries with him forever.
The player locates the origin of the incorrect spelling at his former club FC São Paulo. At the time, the club had merely been informed that his first name had accidentally ended up on the jersey "with an e".
