Leipzig, August 29, 2026

The public prosecutor's office has filed charges before the Leipzig Regional Court following a rampage driving incident in Leipzig's city center; the accused faces charges including attempted murder in 85 cases and dangerous bodily harm in eight cases.

According to sources within the investigative circles, the charges encompass a broad spectrum of serious criminal offenses. In addition to 85 counts of attempted murder, the public prosecutor's office accuses the man of dangerous interference with road traffic in 91 cases and dangerous bodily harm in eight cases. This results in a large number of individual charges arising from the vehicle's route and the persons affected.

Charges in Detail

The Leipzig Regional Court must now decide on the admission of the charges and, if necessary, set a date for the main trial. Initially, the criminal chamber will examine whether the charges brought are sufficiently substantiated and whether there is sufficient suspicion of the offense. Only thereafter will decisions be made on the opening of the main proceedings and any applications for evidence.
