Background: Allegations against the Chief Prosecutor
The background to the suspension is a criminal complaint from Khan's close circle. According to media reports, Khan is accused of sexual misconduct toward a staff member of his office. According to the "Wall Street Journal," an assistant had told UN officials that Khan had sexually harassed her over several months and ultimately forced her to have sexual intercourse. He is said to have pressured her repeatedly over an extended period and forced her to engage in sexual acts.
Khan himself rejects the allegations. Khan had rejected the allegations and declared his willingness to cooperate with the investigators. He had also stated that he wanted to return once the allegations had been clarified. The 56-year-old Khan has provisionally stepped back from his office for just over a year and wanted to return once the allegations had been clarified. As early as May of last year, Khan had provisionally stepped down from his post because of the allegations.
