Germany's Higher Regional Court in Hamburg on Wednesday convicted members of the far-right group "Letzte Verteidigungswelle" on terrorism-related charges and sentenced them to prison terms, following a trial that drew national attention over the group's suspected extremist activities.

The ruling by the Oberlandesgericht Hamburg concluded a high-profile terrorism trial against members of a group authorities describe as part of the country's young far-right scene. Prosecutors from the Bundesanwaltschaft, Germany's federal prosecutor's office, had argued that the defendants operated as a structured terrorist organization with the aim of attacking refugee housing and undermining the democratic order.
