No Evidence of Third-Party Involvement

The body was examined by a medical team still in the morning. „Die Leiche wurde kommissioniert, es war kein Fremdverschulden feststellbar", it was said from the police directorate. Accordingly, there is no concrete indication of a violent crime or an accident. Also currently, according to the authorities: „Derzeit gibt es keine Hinweise auf Fremdverschulden."

It remains initially unclear exactly what the man died of. As the police said, an autopsy will bring clarity: „Ob er eines natürlichen Todes oder infolge übermäßigen Alkoholkonsums starb, wird eine Obduktion klären." Until the expert opinion is available, the death will be classified as unexplained. The investigations are being conducted in close coordination with the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office.

Autopsy to Clarify Cause of Death

Reumannplatz in Vienna's tenth district of Favoriten is a heavily frequented traffic hub and at the same time a hotspot district that repeatedly makes headlines due to drug and alcohol issues. Social workers from the City of Vienna as well as several aid organizations are regularly deployed here, and affected individuals are approached directly on site. The case once again raises the question of sufficient care services for homeless people in the federal capital.

After the discovery of the body, police secured the area around the small green area at Reumannplatz. The municipal employees who had found the deceased were questioned as first witnesses. Further investigations, in particular regarding places of stay and possible contacts of the deceased in recent days, are ongoing, it was said.

Investigators expect the results of the forensic medical examination in the coming days. Only then can the cause of death be officially confirmed. Currently, according to the police, a death without third-party involvement is assumed – an assessment based on the formal external examination of the body conducted so far.
