Escalation and Casualties

The latest escalation began five weeks ago, with Israeli attacks causing widespread devastation in Lebanon. Hundreds of Hezbollah members are among the dead, according to Israeli reports. The UNIFIL observer mission has expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in the border area, where clashes have intensified.

Several UN peacekeepers have been killed or injured in the crossfire, underscoring the risks faced by international forces attempting to mediate the conflict. Over 6,000 projectiles have been fired from Lebanon into Israel since the start of the hostilities, with about half of these attacks originating from Hezbollah fighters south of the Litani River.
