Dortmund, 06 June 2026
Former referee Deniz Aytekin conducted the first-round draw of the DFB-Pokal live on ARD's Sportschau from Dortmund on Saturday, pairing 64 clubs from across German football ahead of matches scheduled for the third weekend of August.
The draw, broadcast from 18:00 local time, split the 64 entrants into two pots of 32: one for professional clubs and one for amateurs and lower-division sides. Each top-flight side is paired with a side from the amateur pot, in keeping with the cup's long-standing David-versus-Goliath format. A first-round match in the DFB-Pokal "is mainly scheduled for 21 August," according to the German Football Association, with ties to be played from Friday to Monday across the third August weekend.
