The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has referred the case of Frankfurt captain Laura Freigang to the German Football Association (DFB) after she missed three doping controls within twelve months.

The "Die 44-malige Nationalspielerin" Laura Freigang faces disciplinary proceedings from the DFB after NADA confirmed on Friday three "strikes" for the Eintracht captain within twelve months. The authority has referred this "möglichen Verstoß gegen Anti-Doping-Bestimmungen" to the German Football Association, "der nun für das Disziplinarverfahren zuständig ist". According to NADA, a ban of up to two years is a possible sanction when three controls are missed within one year.

Freigang addressed the allegations on Saturday via Instagram, one day after the DFB women's 2-0 victory over Norway in Cologne, which secured the team's World Cup ticket for the "Endrunde 2027 in Brasilien". "Gegen mich besteht und bestand zu keinem Zeitpunkt ein Dopingverdacht", the 28-year-old wrote. She said the three missed controls were "nicht um bewusst vermiedene Kontrolltermine", but rather "um Unstimmigkeiten bzw. Missverständnisse".
