Novak Djokovic crashed out of the French Open in the third round on Friday after squandering a two-set lead against Brazilian teenager João Fonseca in a dramatic five-set marathon on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The 39-year-old Serb, a three-time champion at Roland Garros, looked in complete control after taking the opening two sets 6-4, 6-4. But the match turned as the 19-year-old Fonseca grew in confidence, eventually sealing a 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5 victory after four hours and 53 minutes.

The result sends shockwaves through the tournament and leaves the men's draw without any previous Grand Slam winner after just six days of play.
