Drunk driver (43) crashes into house wall in St. Georgen im Attergau and flees

Hit-and-run and intoxication

The officers confiscated the 43-year-old's driver's license. He will be reported to the responsible authority. The man now faces criminal proceedings for hit-and-run as well as further consequences in connection with driving under the influence of alcohol. The investigations are ongoing.

As of now, no one was injured. The house wall of the affected building was damaged; the amount of property damage is the subject of ongoing investigations. Residents had noticed the incident and alerted the emergency services.

The case is part of a series of incidents in the district of Vöcklabruck in which intoxicated drivers have been taken off the road. Just recently, a plainclothes patrol in Frankenburg in the same district took seven drivers off the road because they were intoxicated or did not have the necessary documents.

In such cases, the police regularly point out that alcohol at the wheel remains one of the most common causes of accidents. The consequences of a hit-and-run are also significant: it can result in a fine, the revocation of the driving license, and in severe cases a prison sentence.

For the affected residents, the incident is nevertheless a shock. A house wall that a moving car crashes through leaves traces – not only in the masonry. The residents now have to deal with the insurance and the claims settlement, while the investigations against the driver continue.

Investigations ongoing

The police are continuing their investigations and are examining in particular whether the man was even capable of operating a vehicle safely at the time of the accident. Should the suspicion of hit-and-run be substantiated, charges will be brought at the public prosecutor's office. A court date has not yet been set.

The 43-year-old himself has so far not publicly commented on the incident. The residents of the house damaged by the impact also initially did not wish to comment. The police ask any further potential witnesses to contact the nearest police station.
