Drunk driver rams car off the road on B3 – license revoked on the spot

The occupants of the rammed car were injured in the impact and had to receive medical care. They were taken to the Landesklinikum Korneuburg (regional hospital) for further treatment. The authorities initially provided no further details on the exact degree of injuries of the persons involved.

According to the investigations so far, the intoxicated driver was traveling on the B3 in the direction of Langenzersdorf when the collision occurred. After the impact, the rammed vehicle went off the road. The cause of the accident is connected to the intoxication of the party responsible, and officers are pursuing indications of an alcohol-related offense.

In addition to the immediate license confiscation, charges were filed against the drunk driver. The Bezirkshauptmannschaft Korneuburg is conducting the administrative penalty proceedings, and the criminal-law consequences are being reviewed by the public prosecutor's office. Which penalty the man ultimately faces depends on the result of the breathalyzer test as well as on the severity of the negligent bodily harm.

Police immediately confiscate the driver's license

The B3 federal highway is one of the most important connections between Vienna and the Weinviertel region and runs through densely populated areas. Especially on the service lanes and opposite lanes in the Bisamberg and Langenzersdorf area, risky overtaking maneuvers and speeding violations occur repeatedly, according to police.

The current case is part of a series of drunk-driving accidents in the district of Korneuburg. As recently as July 2026, the Bezirkshauptmannschaft had reported multiple driver's license confiscations following drunk-driving trips in the district. In the neighboring district of Hollabrunn, the number of alcohol-related traffic offenses had also risen recently.

Traffic experts point out that even small amounts of alcohol significantly impair the ability to react. On a federal highway like the B3, where high speeds are driven, intoxication can therefore quickly lead to serious accidents. Police announced increased alcohol checks, particularly on weekend nights.

Legal consequences for the party responsible

The cleanup work at the scene of the accident lasted around two hours, according to police. During the operation, there were brief traffic delays on the B3. Apart from the car occupants, no one else was injured according to the current state of information.

According to initial reports, the party responsible was cooperative with police. He will fully cooperate with the authorities and in court, it was said from investigator circles. The victim's car was no longer roadworthy after the accident and had to be towed away.

The exact consequences for the man's driver's license will be decided in the coming weeks. In Austria, a first drunk-driving offense with a higher blood-alcohol level typically carries a several-month revocation of the driving license as well as a hefty fine. If the suspicion of negligent bodily harm is confirmed, an additional court-imposed sentence will be added.

Following the incident on the B3, police are now looking for any additional witnesses who observed the accident. Information is requested to be given to the nearest police station or to the Bezirkshauptmannschaft Korneuburg.
