ECB Director Isabel Schnabel has signaled further monetary policy tightening in light of 2.9 percent inflation in Germany.
At the current key interest rate, it is unlikely that inflation will return to the targeted 2.0 percent in the medium term, Schnabel said: "Daher wird eine weitere Straffung erforderlich sein." The German inflation rate has risen significantly recently according to the Federal Statistical Office and currently stands at 2.9 percent. The main drivers are, according to economists' assessment, once again rising energy costs, which are transmitted to consumer prices through fuels, heating oil, and electricity prices.
