Abdul El-Sayed, Michigan's Democratic Senate nominee, issued an apology on Monday to Jewish Democrats over comments made by streamer Hasan Piker following a synagogue attack that the campaign had previously struggled to address.
A line drawn at Piker's comments
In a Monday statement, El-Sayed said that "nobody speaks for this campaign besides me and my campaign spokespeople," drawing a line between his campaign and the online provocations of Piker, with whom he campaigned during a hard-fought primary. The statement came after months of friction over how the campaign handled Piker's remarks about the synagogue attack and was framed as an effort to repair trust with Jewish voters in Michigan.
