The 19-year-old Upper Austrian Emma Felbermayr drove onto the podium at the F1 Academy debut in Silverstone and thereby defended second place in the overall standings of the women's series.
Perfect start in Saturday's race
Felbermayr experienced a strong debut in the F1 Academy over the past weekend in Silverstone, the women's series with Formula 4 cars that made its first appearance at the storied British racing circuit. In the first race on Saturday, which was run with a reversed grid, the woman from Wels started from pole position and brought her victory home in commanding fashion.
On Sunday, the main race over a total of 13 laps was on the program. From eighth place she moved up to fourth in the first lap, meaning Felbermayr was making up ground early in the race. The safety car phase, triggered by Lloyd's teammate Ella Stevens, bunched the field together once again and opened up the chance for the Audi junior driver to move further forward.
After the restart, Felbermayr was in immediate pursuit of McLaren junior Ella Lloyd. In the fast Copse corner, Felbermayr forced the position change and was from then on third. As the race progressed, the Upper Austrian showed nerves of steel: she also fended off Gademan's attack in the Maggotts corner with routine and brought the podium place safely to the finish.
