The European Commission has imposed a fine of 200 million euros on the Chinese online platform Temu for violating the Digital Services Act by failing to properly assess the risks of illegal products on its platform.
The fine was imposed after an investigation found that a high percentage of chargers sold on Temu failed basic safety tests, and the platform did not do enough to prevent the sale of illegal products.
According to the European Commission, consumers in the European Union are offered illegal products on Temu far too frequently, including counterfeit, dangerous, toxic, or otherwise environmentally harmful goods.
Background
The European Commission based its findings on its own investigations, studies by consumer protection organizations, and test purchases, which found that many products on Temu did not meet EU safety standards.
