Brussels, 28 May 2026

The European Commission announced on 28 May 2026 a 200-million-euro fine against online marketplace Temu for violating the Digital Services Act by not adequately assessing and mitigating risks from illegal products offered to EU consumers.

A Landmark Penalty

The fine stems from Temu's 2024 risk assessment, which the Commission found to be insufficient. EU Commission Vice President Henna Virkkunen stated that risk assessments are not box-ticking exercises but the backbone of the Digital Services Act.
