Belgian cycling pro Remco Evenepoel has publicly criticized his German teammate Florian Lipowitz from the Red Bull team after the sixth stage of the Tour de France and called for an internal discussion.

Evenepoel was visibly angered by his teammate's behavior after the mountain finish at the Tourmalet. "Das hat mich geärgert, und das ist etwas, das wir heute Abend gründlich besprechen müssen", Evenepoel was quoted in the Belgian media. Asked whether he had been angry, he replied: "Ja, ich war sauer – und zwar zu Recht."

Background to the dispute

The conflict stems from the phase just before the final climb. According to the report, Lipowitz conserved his energy at the back of the group while Evenepoel continued to set the pace. For the Belgian, this was particularly bitter because at the Tourmalet he not only had to give way to the two leading riders Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, but also lost just under 20 seconds to Lipowitz.
