Fake police officers rob 88-year-old in Bad Schönborn, stealing gold worth six figures

Perpetrators pose as police officers

A short time later, there was a knock at the 88-year-old's front door. The caller was now at the door in person and told the senior citizen that a supposed police colleague would be coming to photograph her valuables. The woman then handed over her gold to the fake officers, who then photographed it together with a second perpetrator.

A police spokesperson explained that the stolen gold was not jewelry. According to investigators, it is not yet clear whether the precious metal was stored in the form of bars or coins. The value of the stolen gold is estimated to be at least a six-figure euro amount.

Violence against the senior citizen

After photographing the gold, one of the fake police officers instructed the 88-year-old to go to her bedroom. He then struck the senior citizen in the face, according to the current state of the investigation. The perpetrator then took the gold and fled the apartment. The police provided no further details about possible injuries to the woman or her condition after the attack.

The criminal police have launched an investigation for aggravated robbery. According to the police, the search for the fleeing perpetrators has so far been unsuccessful. The officers are also examining possible connections to similar cases in the region, in which fake police officers attempted to defraud elderly people of large sums of money or valuables.

Police warn of scam

The police strongly warn against the shock call scam by alleged police officers. Real police officers would never demand valuables, jewelry, or cash by phone or in person at the door, allegedly to protect them from thieves. Victims are asked to immediately inform the police via the emergency number 110 in case of suspicious calls.

Relatives of elderly people are also asked to educate their family members about common scams and to have an open conversation about the topic. When in doubt, do not disclose personal data or information about valuables in case of suspicious calls or visits, do not open the door, but contact the police directly.
