Fatal Accident in Globasnitz: First Suspect Identified

Investigations and Evidence Gathering

The investigations are concentrating on the precise sequence of events on the night of the accident on the B81. Officers are examining whether it was a hit-and-run accident, whether other vehicles were involved, and what role external circumstances such as visibility conditions and the state of the road played.

Bleiburger Straße connects Globasnitz with the neighboring municipality of Bleiburg and is a heavily traveled route in the Lower Rosental valley. In recent years, there have been repeated serious traffic accidents on this stretch, which is why the authorities are keeping a particularly close eye on the safety situation on the B81.

Police Notice to the Public

Following the identification of the first suspect, further inquiries, interviews, and analyses of recordings from the Traundorf area and surroundings will be carried out. Possible witnesses who were in the vicinity at the time of the accident will also be contacted again.

The Klagenfurt Public Prosecutor's Office is involved in the proceedings. Should the suspicion be substantiated, an indictment for negligent homicide under particularly dangerous circumstances or, depending on the circumstances, for further offenses can be expected.

Legal Steps

The Carinthia police issued a notice to the public. Individuals who were traveling on the B81 between Globasnitz and Traundorf during the night in question, or who can provide information about the circumstances of the accident, are asked to contact their nearest police station.

The municipality of Globasnitz and the Völkermarkt district administration are in contact with the victim's family. For reasons of personal privacy, the police initially released no further details about the age and identity of the deceased.

The B81 was temporarily closed for the duration of the evidence-gathering process and the removal of the vehicle involved in the accident. The exact time of the accident and the status of the technical investigations are expected to be the subject of a further release in the coming days.

An interrogation of the now-known suspect will take place in the course of the coming week. Only after that will police release information about the person and the possible involvement in the crime.

The background of the accident has therefore not yet been conclusively clarified. Further investigations, in particular the analysis of pieces of fabric and technical evidence, are intended to clarify how the fatal incident could have occurred.
