FC Bayern sells Nübel to Besiktas Istanbul – Transfer fee significantly below own demands

A few weeks ago, Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl had informed Nübel's agency that the goalkeeper should not appear at Bayern's training start on July 20 at Säbener Straße. The direction was thus set, and the agreement with the traditional club from the Turkish Süper Lig has now followed. German football champions FC Bayern Munich and the traditional club from the Turkish Süper Lig therefore agreed on the transfer.

Transfer fee below own expectations

The transfer fee for Nübel is said to be 6.5 million euros plus five million euros in bonuses. This puts the result significantly below Bayern's previously communicated demand, which according to earlier reports had been well over ten million euros. The goalkeeper's market value is also listed at twelve million euros. According to information from transfer reporter Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Besiktas is to pay only a fixed five million euros – the bonus payments could double the total to around ten million euros in the best case.

For Besiktas, Nübel would be the most expensive goalkeeper in the club's history. The previous record for a goalkeeper at the traditional club stands at 3.3 million euros, paid in 2015/16 for Denys Boyko from Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. In total, Besiktas has spent more than ten million euros on only six players in its history. The current club transfer record has been held for a year by Orkun Kökçü, who came from Benfica for 30 million euros. Salih Özcan from the Bundesliga is also expected to sign with Besiktas shortly.

Loan stations instead of a regular spot in Munich

Nübel was loaned to AS Monaco from 2021 to 2023 and then loaned out to Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart for the past three seasons. At VfB, the keeper had established himself as a regular starter, yet he did not return to Munich. The background: behind Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig, and Sven Ulreich, only a place on the bench or even in the stands would have remained for Nübel at Bayern. His contract at FC Bayern ran until June 30, 2029 – an extension in Munich was apparently not up for debate.

Record transfer for Besiktas

At Besiktas, whose squad is coached by trainer Vincenzo Italiano and has a squad value of 169.35 million euros, Nübel is expected to take on a central role immediately. The club faces a Europa League qualifying match against FC Midtjylland in just under two weeks and is apparently still looking to strengthen at short notice. FC Bayern, which has a squad of 32 players under contract under coach Vincent Kompany and a total squad value of 1.05 billion euros, would also save further salary and ease squad planning through Nübel's departure.

In Turkish media reports, the transfer is consistently described as a done deal. Officially, however, the move has been confirmed neither by Bayern nor by Besiktas. If the medical goes smoothly, Nübel could be presented in Istanbul as early as this week. This brings to an end a disappointing Munich spell for the goalkeeper, which once began with great expectations as a succession project behind Manuel Neuer.
