Lugano, August 9, 2026
FC Lugano secured a clear victory over FC Zürich in the Swiss Super League on Sunday and thus took over the top spot in the standings.
The team coached by Marcel Koller dominated the Zurich side on home turf and took advantage of the moment to climb all the way to the top of the table. With this result, Lugano moves to the top of the league and displaces FC Zürich from the leading position. The defeat weighs especially heavy on the visitors featuring goalkeeper Heinz Lindner, as they had to head home from Ticino without any points.
Protagonists on the pitch
Daniel Dos Santos was one of the most noticeable players for the Luganesi and played a major role in the clear home victory with his performance. Kevin Behrens and Renato Steffen also decisively shaped the Ticino side's attacking play and ensured that the Zurich defense was under pressure for long stretches. On the Zurich side, Dereck Moncada managed to get on the scoresheet, but overall FCZ's performance fell short of expectations.
