Berlin, September 2, 2026
The Federal Cabinet convened in Berlin on Wednesday to discuss, among other things, the expansion of professional staff in daycare centers and the key points of a tax reform.
According to government circles, the focus of the meeting was a package of measures to strengthen early childhood education. Under the plan, large daycare centers are to receive additional funding for permanently employed professional staff in order to improve educational quality and absorb the growing demand for childcare.
Planned Tiering Based on Facility Size
Specifically, the draft provides that facilities with up to 80 children will receive additional funding for at least 20 weekly hours of professional staff. Facilities with more than 80 children are to be financed for at least 40 hours, and facilities with more than 120 children for at least 60 hours. With this, the government is responding to the years-long personnel shortage in early childhood education.
