VIENNA, Austria — April 18, 2026

Austrian authorities have arrested a suspect and seized multiple firearms, including weapons linked to illegal smuggling networks, during a nationwide operation targeting organized crime.

The coordinated action, led by the State Protection and Intelligence Directorate, involved searches of 67 vehicles and checks on 40 individuals across the country. Among the confiscated items were two Category B weapons and two Category C firearms in Tyrol, as well as a Category B firearm and several Nazi devotional objects in Burgenland. A provisional weapons ban was imposed on the arrested individual.

Operation Details and Seizures

The operation marked a significant effort to disrupt international arms smuggling routes, particularly those involving counterfeit Glock pistols and Balkan trafficking networks. Authorities emphasized the scale of the crackdown, which targeted both individuals and vehicles suspected of ties to organized crime.

In Tyrol, law enforcement recovered high-risk firearms, while the discovery of Nazi-related items in Burgenland raised concerns about extremist activity. The seizures align with broader European trends, where counterfeit weapons smuggled by criminal groups have been intercepted repeatedly in recent years.
