World football governing body FIFA has acknowledged and is reviewing an incident involving Australian video referee Shaun Evans during the World Cup match between Germany and Curaçao (7:1), after a hand gesture by the official in the VAR room sparked speculation about a possible white power symbol.
Australian official Shaun Evans was briefly seen in the video assistant referee room on Sunday as the German team defeated Curaçao 7-1. During the TV broadcast, Evans made a gesture that was interpreted in different ways on social media: Some users accused him of displaying the so-called white power symbol, in which the three extended fingers form a "W" and the circle made with the wrist represents a "P".
