New York, April 24, 2026 Four tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium near New York were listed for sale at $2,299,998.85 each on the organization’s official resale platform, marking an unprecedented price for sports event access.
Record-Breaking Ticket Prices
The tickets, originally priced at $8,860 each (approximately 7,582 euros), were listed with a base price of $1,999,999, plus a 15% FIFA fee of $299,999.85 per ticket. If sold at the listed price, FIFA would earn approximately $2.4 million from the transaction.
The seats are located in the fourth-to-last row of Block 124, a lower-tier section positioned sideways behind the goal. This pricing strategy has drawn attention due to the stark contrast between the original face value and the resale asking price.
FIFA allows ticket holders to resell their tickets on its platform at any price, with exceptions only in countries like Mexico where local laws impose restrictions. The organization charges a 15% fee to both buyers and sellers for transactions conducted through its official resale site.
FIFA Defends Resale Model
FIFA has defended its resale practices, stating that they align with common procedures for major sporting events in host countries. The organization emphasized that revenue generated from these transactions is reinvested into global football development through its 211 member associations.
