The US state of Florida filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman on Monday, accusing the company of neglecting the safety of children and adolescents in favor of the AI race.

The lawsuit, filed in a Florida court, is the first of its kind brought by a US state against OpenAI. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier stated at a press conference on Monday that the company misled users about the dangers of the ChatGPT chatbot.

Uthmeier specifically accuses OpenAI of aiding and abetting mass shootings. According to the lawsuit, a shooter at Florida State University allegedly used ChatGPT to plan their attack. The lawsuit also states that the company encouraged vulnerable individuals to commit suicide and made children addicted to ChatGPT.
