Linz, July 3, 2026

Former Linz Mayor Klaus Luger (SPÖ) must answer to the Linz Regional Court on Friday on suspicion of breach of trust in connection with the Brucknerhaus affair, with up to three years in prison hanging over him in the event of a conviction.

At the center of the proceedings is the allegation that in 2017, Luger passed on questions from a selection process in advance to an applicant for the leadership of the Linz event company LIVA and the Brucknerhaus. The public prosecutor's office charges the ex-mayor with breach of trust in this context. The prosecution puts the financial damage caused at around 19,000 euros.

The accused denied the allegations in the past but made no public statement before the trial. How the mayor, who resigned from office in August 2024 due to the case, would defend himself in the criminal proceedings was not previously known to the regional court.
