The federal government has dropped plans for higher personal contributions from nursing home residents and their families and continues to struggle over a common line on the long-term care reform.
After months of negotiations, the federal government has discarded the original plans of former Health Minister Warken, under which nursing home residents or their relatives would have had to pay significantly more out of pocket before public support would kick in. The plan had met with resistance within the coalition, particularly from the ranks of the SPD.
Background: Financial situation of the long-term care insurance
Family caregivers are to continue receiving pension credits, according to information from the negotiations. This means one of the existing reliefs in the system is being retained, even though the reform as a whole has not yet been definitively formulated.
