Graz, July 27, 2026

The Graz Neos leader and lead candidate in the municipal election, Philipp Pointner, has resigned from the party roughly four weeks after the vote.

According to state managing director Lena Berner, who confirmed a report by the "Kleine Zeitung" on Monday, the surprising move came as a shock. Pointner, who had led the Neos in Graz as lead candidate in the election campaign, has thrown in the towel, even though the constituent session of the new municipal council will not take place until August.

The Neos received only 4.9 percent of the vote in the municipal election on June 28, 0.5 percentage points less than in 2021. The Pink party lost votes compared to the previous election and came in at just 4.9 percent with two mandates. They clearly missed their electoral targets.
