Last year, 2,222 violations of restraining and entry bans were registered in Austria, as reported by the Greens, citing a parliamentary inquiry response from Gerhard Karner (ÖVP).

High number of violations despite protective measures

According to figures disseminated by the APA, a total of 14,101 restraining and entry bans were issued in Austria in 2025. The high number of violations – 2,222 cases – illustrates, in the view of the Greens, that the central protective measure against domestic violence is too often undermined in practice. It is particularly alarming that in about one in every six issued restraining orders, a violation is documented.

Meri Disoski sees this as a structural failure: "While women are murdered by their partners and ex-partners, the police work with different methods depending on the federal state." Disoski emphasized that protection against violence must not depend on the place of residence or chance: "Protection against violence must not depend on the place of residence or chance."
