Vienna, July 1, 2026
The Vienna Regional Court on Wednesday morning acquitted all ten defendants in the trial over a brutal group attack on four young men at the water park in Vienna-Floridsdorf on November 19, 2025.
As court spokesperson Christina Salzborn confirmed, the lay judges' panel acquitted all ten men, aged between 15 and 27, late Wednesday morning. The public prosecutor's office had charged the men with grievous bodily harm, although some were accused only of contributory acts, while others were charged merely with attempted offenses. In the case of the youngest defendant, attempted murder was also on the table. The ten men were released from custody following the verdict.
Background: From Chat Group Call-Up to a "Massive Violent Attack"
According to the indictment, the background to the crime was a so-called "insult to honor." One of the defendants was said to have been unwilling to let that stand. Subsequently, he allegedly called on his acquaintances via a chat group to come to Floridsdorf – the reason being what the indictment described as a "massive beating." Around 30 Syrians attacked their victims on November 19, 2025, using sticks, brass knuckles, a blank-firing pistol, pepper spray, and knives. The prosecution, in her opening statement at the start of the trial, identified what she called a "massive Gewaltattacke."
