Leipzig, August 3, 2026
Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi have reached an agreement on a transfer to Spanish first-division club FC Villarreal.
The Hungarian custodian Peter Gulacsi leaves RB Leipzig and moves to the Spanish La Liga to join Villarreal. The club from northeastern Spain thus secures the services of a long-standing Bundesliga goalkeeper who had been a fixture in Leipzig for years.
At RB Leipzig it had recently become foreseeable that the personnel situation in goal would change. Although Gulacsi still took the field in 23 Bundesliga matches, the fact that the 24-year-old Marten Vandevoordt is the future in goal had long been clear and was also communicated as such by the RB leadership.
Vandevoordt moves into focus
Vandevoordt, who had previously been regarded as a prospect, thus definitively steps up into the role of the first-choice goalkeeper at the Saxon Bundesliga club. The club had repeatedly emphasized in recent months that the succession in goal was settled and that the young Belgian should take on this task.
