In Ramallah, the administrative city of the Palestinian Authority under President Mahmoud Abbas, pressure on the government to distance itself more clearly from the violence is meanwhile growing. The Palestinian Authority, which administers parts of the West Bank under the Oslo Accords, has only limited control over areas in which the Israeli army operates.
