Hannover, 28 May 2026
Hannover 96 has appointed Jonas Boldt, the former sporting director of Hamburger SV, as its new sporting managing director, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The 44-year-old football executive takes over from Jörg Schmadtke and will officially begin his role on June 1. His contract with the 2. Bundesliga side runs until May 31, 2029.
Boldt arrives at the Lower Saxony club after a five-year spell as Sportvorstand at Hamburger SV, where he served from 2019 until his departure in 2024. During his tenure, the traditional northern club repeatedly fell short of its primary objective: promotion back to the Bundesliga.
The failed promotion campaigns ultimately cost Boldt his job at HSV. Now, he faces a similar mission at Hannover 96, a club that has also been striving to return to Germany's top flight.
