Hannover, 22 August 2026

Hannover 96 advanced to the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Friday evening with a comfortable win against Bremen fifth-tier side SV Hemelingen.

In front of a home crowd in Lower Saxony, the Hannover side dominated the match from the start. The second-division team set the course for victory early on and gave the underdogs from Bremen little room to develop their game.

Hemelingen, who had been knocked out in the first round of the cup last season with a heavy 0:9 defeat against VfL Wolfsburg, once again found it difficult to settle into the match. The gap in class between an established second-division side and a fifth-tier side was evident throughout the entire game.
