The World Health Organization (WHO) is investigating a rare suspected case of human-to-human transmission of Hantavirus aboard a cruise ship in the Atlantic, where three passengers have died and seven others are infected.

Outbreak Details and Response

Three passengers—an elderly Dutch couple and a German citizen—have died from the Hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius, a cruise ship currently anchored off Cape Verde. Laboratory tests confirmed the virus in two of the deceased. Seven cases, including confirmed and suspected infections, have been reported among the approximately 150 passengers and crew, most of whom are from the UK, US, and Spain.
