Haselsteiner remains President of the Tyrol Festival Erl until 2031

Since 2017, the presidency has been exercised within the framework of the specially established private foundation. The Tiroler Festspiele Erl Gemeinnützige Privatstiftung is the bearer of the festival and thus also the institutional basis on which Haselsteiner performs his role.

The advisory board of this foundation voted unanimously in favor of the extension. A public discussion of possible counter-candidates or dissenting positions is not apparent from the announcement; the vote was accordingly cast without any dissenting votes.

Festival artistic director Jonas Kaufmann reacted with clear words to the decision. In a statement, he described the confirmation of Haselsteiner as a stroke of luck for the house and highlighted his commitment to culture.

Kaufmann verbatim: „Wir schätzen uns außerordentlich glücklich, mit Hans Peter Haselsteiner einen so engagierten Verfechter der Kultur und ihrer Wirkung in der Gesellschaft als Präsidenten an der Spitze der Tiroler Festspiele Erl zu haben."

Continuity in Challenging Times

With the extension, personnel continuity at the top of the festival is secured for the coming five years. The Festival Erl has established itself over the past two decades under Haselsteiner's presidency as one of the most distinguished classical festival venues in the German-speaking world.

The next season of the Tyrol Festival Erl will continue to be programmatically directed by artistic director Jonas Kaufmann, who is also one of the internationally sought-after tenors. Organizational and financial stability are considered key factors for the reputation of the festival.

The confirmation of Haselsteiner came at a time when many European classical festivals have to cope with rising costs and changing audience behavior. A longer-term, stable presidency is regarded throughout the industry as helpful for planning certainty.

For the coming years, the personnel continuity is also accompanied by a continuity of strategic direction. Haselsteiner had emphasized in earlier statements that the festival aims to combine top-level artistic achievement with regional roots in the Tyrolean Lower Inn Valley.
