At the trail running event "Kaiserkrone Trail" at the Wilder Kaiser in Scheffau (district of Kufstein, Tyrol), the ongoing heat wave on June 27 led to three mountain rescue operations, during which, among others, a 35-year-old Austrian with a core body temperature of 41.3 degrees was airlifted by rescue helicopter to Kufstein hospital.
The "Kaiserkrone Trail" took place on June 27 in Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser. According to police, the current heat wave caused problems, resulting in multiple rescue operations. "Die aktuelle Hitzewelle sorgte jedoch für Problemen, es kam zu mehreren Rettungseinsätzen", the emergency services explained.
Five races under extreme conditions
The event comprised five different trail runs in various categories, difficulties, and distances. "Dabei stand ein Wettbewerb mit fünf verschiedenen Geländeläufen in unterschiedlichen Kategorien, Schwierigkeiten und Distanzen am Programm." The combination of steep mountain terrain and high temperatures presented the starters with extreme conditions.
