Personnel concerns before kickoff
Even before kickoff, Hertha had to absorb several setbacks. As the club announced, Hertha lost a whole host of regular players in Fabian Reese, Tjark Ernst, Michael Cuisance, Kennet Eichhorn, Michal Karbownik, and Dawid Kownacki. These absences made the task at the Bundesliga-relegated side from Bochum no easier.
