Hertha Wels celebrated a narrow away win at FC Liefering in the 2. Liga on Friday evening, setting an exclamation mark in the still-young season.
The team from Upper Austria overcame Red Bull Salzburg's youth side at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg with great passion and tactical discipline. The match, played on Friday evening, was largely even for long stretches before Hertha Wels made the decisive moves in the crucial phase. The win is already regarded internally as a small exclamation mark.
The result comes at a particularly welcome time for the side coached by Thomas Sageder early in the season. After the promoted side from the Wels region had to make the move down to the lower division last season, every point counts in the battle for survival. The away trip to Salzburg, where Liefering traditionally performs strongly at home, was therefore regarded as a difficult test – which makes this three-pointer all the more valued in the Wels camp.
