Vienna, June 11, 2026
The Austrian sporting goods retailer Hervis will close a total of 17 of its 93 stores in Austria over the course of 2026, affecting around 100 employees.
Hervis is responding to a profit situation that has been strained for years. As the company told APA on inquiry, the closures would be carried out "schrittweise unter Einhaltung von Kündigungsfristen der Mietverträge" ("gradually in compliance with the notice periods of the lease agreements"). Hervis justified the move by saying that the affected locations could not be operated profitably. The Salzburg locations (SAM Outlet) and Baden have already been closed this year.
In January 2026, the Salzburg-based retail group Spar announced the sale of Hervis. This meant that Spar was parting ways with its loss-making sporting goods subsidiary after more than 50 years. The new owner is Quantum Investment Holding GmbH, based in Vienna. According to the company register, the German investor and Snipes founder Voth and Schloemer, founder of the office campus Factory Berlin, each hold 50 percent of the company.
