In Austrian tourism, wages for tens of thousands of employees will rise from October 2026, after the Vida union and the Chamber of Commerce agreed on a new collective agreement (KV).
The agreement came after a negotiating round described as difficult and gave employees in the hotel and gastronomy sector a real wage increase. The new collective agreement takes effect on 1 October 2026 and applies to workers organised under the tourism collective agreement.
At the centre of the debate were the high overnight-stay and revenue figures of the past season. The tourism industry had generated high returns, but the employers' initial offers would, according to the union's calculations, have caused real wages to fall. The adjustment now achieved is presented by employee representatives as a response to this imbalance.
