Sinsheim, 29 May 2026
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim announced on Friday that it has extended the contract of head coach Christian Ilzer early and on a long-term basis, rewarding the Austrian for transforming the club from a relegation candidate into a European competitor.
A Turnaround Season
The club did not disclose the exact new duration of the 48-year-old's contract, which was originally set to run until 2027. The early extension follows a season in which Hoffenheim secured 61 points, the second-best tally in the club's Bundesliga history, and finished fifth in the table.
Sport managing director Andreas Schicker praised Ilzer's impact in a club press release. "Chris Ilzer hat herausragende Arbeit geleistet und unsere Mannschaft sportlich auf ein neues Level gehoben. Er steht für eine klare Idee von Fußball, für hohe Intensität und eine moderne Führungskultur," Schicker said.
