Munich, July 27, 2026

The ifo Business Climate Index rose to 86.6 points in July, recording its third consecutive increase, the Munich-based Ifo Institute announced on Monday based on a survey of around 9,000 executives.

In June, Germany's most important economic barometer had stood at 85.7 points. Economists surveyed by the Reuters news agency had only expected 86.0 points. The increase was therefore stronger than anticipated and exceeded expert forecasts.

Expectations Drive the Increase

The main driving force was the expectations indicator, which climbed by 2.4 points to 86.7 points. The current-assessment indicator, by contrast, deteriorated slightly by 0.5 points to 86.5 points. The picture is therefore mixed: companies are looking forward with greater confidence but are assessing their current business situation more cautiously than in the previous month.
