The State Criminal Police Office and the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office are investigating a hacker attack on Berlin's state network, in which the attackers apparently demanded a ransom.
Following the cyberattack on Berlin's state IT infrastructure, the authorities have launched an investigation. The State Criminal Police Office and the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office are investigating against the suspected perpetrators in close cooperation with the federal security authorities. Several sources confirmed this in agreement.
The attack targeted Berlin's state network, through which numerous authorities of the capital are connected. According to information from the Senate Chancellery, the attackers gained access to internal systems and subsequently demanded a ransom. Details regarding the amount and the specific communication with the extortionists were initially not made public.
