Israel has rejected a US peace initiative for Gaza put forward by President Donald Trump, insisting that any withdrawal will occur only after Hamas and all other armed groups in the territory lay down their weapons.

The Israeli government formally turned down the proposal at the end of July, days after Trump announced what he described as a historic agreement to secure the disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. The announcement followed months of US-brokered diplomacy that began with an initial ceasefire arrangement between Hamas and Israel.
