Jailed Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi Hospitalized After Medical Crisis in Iran

Mohammadi’s foundation stated that a temporary suspension of her sentence is insufficient. "We must ensure she never returns to prison to face the 18 years remaining on her sentence," the foundation said in a statement shared with AP.

Her lawyer, Mostafa Nili, confirmed the transfer was ordered by Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization, which cited her multiple illnesses and need for specialized treatment. "Without such treatment, her life remains at risk," the Nobel committee warned.

International Pressure

Mohammadi, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 while imprisoned, has been a persistent advocate for women’s rights in Iran. Her brother Hamidreza, based in Oslo, accused Iranian intelligence of blocking earlier medical transfers.

The Nobel committee has urged Iranian authorities to allow Mohammadi access to her dedicated medical team in Tehran. Her foundation insists her freedom is non-negotiable: "Now is the time to demand her unconditional freedom and the dismissal of all charges."
