JD.com Takeover: Beijing Threatens EU – Current Status

The Federal Cartel Office in Bonn had granted the investment control clearance for the German market. Subsequently, however, the European Commission in Brussels moved into focus: it is examining the deal for possible distortions of competition and compliance with European rules on foreign direct investments.

From the European Commission's perspective, an in-depth investigation in transactions of this magnitude is routine. The authority is examining whether the merger could harm competition in the European retail market for electronic products.
