Berlin, April 20, 2026 German author Thomas Melle has been named the recipient of the Kleist-Preis 2026, one of the country’s most distinguished literary awards, for his outstanding contributions to contemporary literature. The jury, led by Heinrich von Berenberg, recognized Melle’s body of work, which spans novels, essays, and plays, as exemplary in its depth and innovation. The award ceremony is scheduled for November 22 at the Deutschen Theater Berlin, where Melle will receive the prize, now increased to 30,000 Euro.

Thomas Melle first gained widespread acclaim with his 2011 debut novel *Sickster*, which was longlisted for the Deutschen Buchpreis. His subsequent works, including *Die Welt im Rücken*, have solidified his reputation as a leading voice in German literature. The latter has been translated into 22 languages, underscoring its global resonance.
