Knife attack at apartment door in Graz: 34-year-old arrested

After the attack, the suspect was arrested by police officers in the area of the crime scene. He was taken to the Jakomini correctional facility, as confirmed by police. He is being investigated on suspicion of attempted homicide.

According to initial information, the background to the attack was a family dispute. More specific background details and a possible motive must be clarified through the ongoing investigation, as the Styrian State Security Directorate announced.

Investigation and Background

Investigators secured evidence at the crime scene, including the kitchen knife believed to have been used. Criminal forensics technicians documented the area in front of the apartment door where the attack had taken place.

According to police, the suspect is a Croatian national. No information was initially provided regarding his residency status in Austria or any possible prior criminal record.

Based on the current state of affairs, the authorities assume the attack was a relationship-based crime between the two men. According to police, there are no indications of a threat to the general public or of additional accomplices.
